The work of Mafalda Marques Correia exists between painting and photography.

She composes and constructs each image like it was a painting that she imagined and gives body to. But the final support and the origin of each peace of image used, is photography.

The photographic finishes eliminate the gesture and expression of the painter, and give to the final picture a mechanical character. But it doesnt look like a snap shot. It looks baffling. Its reading is not immediate, it is complex, built and elaborated. Each element was chosen to be in the final composition. Each detail is intentional, which is truly oposite of the casual snapshot.

She eliminates color, an element that normally guides us as a coordinate to notice the time when the picture was took. The black and white also emphasizes the structure of the composition, eliminating the seduction that color normally takes upon us.
